In the Yoruba movie industry today, one hot babe rocking the scene is pretty actress, Ferrari Tonia Okoro who has over the years become a force to reckon with in Nollywood. For her, she got into acting some years back through Kunle Afod whom she did a couple of jobs together with such as Olosho, Ewe Aje and many more. She later joined Bayo Tijani who later introduced her to her present boss, Afeez Abiodun Owo.
Ferrari featured in some interesting movies like Ese, okunkun, Jaiye Ogo, Fijagbemi,Aye Foreign, Egan, Onami, Ayinike etc. Also she produced some movies,titled Emi Meji and Adetoke Gold. Before acting, Tonia once worked with a Mortgage Finance Bank at the head office located at Bode Thomas, Surulere, Lagos, as an auditor.
As a banker, the very industrious babe was also into fashion business. She was born to a Nigerian father by a Cameroonian mother. But it is amazing to know that despite the huge salary she was earning in the bank, Ferrari dumped the job for acting.
When yorubamoviegist.com asked her why she dumped the profession for acting, she said, “I have serious passion for acting. I was an internal auditor in a bank and I was living fine but I always felt incomplete, like something was missing from my life. In a nutshell, I felt I was not doing what I love, so I resigned and followed my dreams. It hasn’t been easy but it has been fulfilling. I have passion for the entertainment industry. I just decided to quit my banking job to focus on my acting talent.
It’s been exciting ever since. I have been nominated for several awards. I am here to reign and rule by God’s grace. Our movies are getting better. Nollywood is becoming a force to reckon with. There is always room for improvement”.
She also shares her view about the belief of some producers who insist that you have to use what you have to get what you need. “ Just like anyone trying to make headway in any profession. I have had to sacrifice to get to where I am today.
There is a price for every rise. However, I have never done anything illegal or immoral to get to this level. It has always been by God’s grace. Now, I am a producer cum actress. I just felt it was time for me to change the narrative, stretch myself and discover a new side of Ferrari. Until you stretch yourself you never become better.
You discover the potential in a tea bag when it is put inside hot water. This applies to me too. Not necessarily that all actors become producers. It’s about what works for you and doing it at the right time. It’s not really about the movie industry; the average Nigerian doesn’t do only one thing.
For example, TY Bello is a photographer and also a singer. Popular actor, Saka is an actor and also a lecturer. Actors shouldn’t be limited to acting alone. The more streams of income you have, the better for you”, she concluded.
